Another Legend Dies

Lux Interior Dies from a pre-existing heart condition, In Glendale, Feb. 4. Another Rock N Roll great passes away. Responsible to classic punk rock songs like, Human Fly, and Garbageman. Covering awesome 60's garage songs like Green Fuzz. The lead died at age 62. And am really bummed. Just last month, I went to The Rose Bowl Flea Market. And was chatting it up with one of the record vendors. He was mentioning that Luxe was just there last month. Buying some records from him. Bummed I didnt get a chance to meet the guy. He's in a better place now. R.I.P.

A Belated Farewell

Because I havent done a proper tribute, to Ron Asheton. I will do so now and tomorrow @ Bar 107. Ron & The Stooges revolutionized Rock N Roll. And were partly responsible for sparking the punk scene of the 70's. Ron died of heart complications, last month in January. Leaving us sad and wondering how the remaining Stooges, will recover. The Stooges recently got back together after an almost 40 year gap. I was fortunate enough to see them headline @ the All Tomorrows Parties in Long Beach, back in early 2000's. It was glorious to see them together, and to this day, one of the most epic shows. I have ever been too. Tomorrow @ my night @ Bar 107, in Downtown L.A.. I will play a small set of bands who were influenced by them, they were influenced by, and of course. Their very own Stooges classics. (R.I.P. Mr. Ron Asheton)

For those of you who don't know. Johnny Burnette is one of the sickest Rockabilly artist to come out of the 50's. On and off through out the years, I've been looking for a Johnny Burnette record. Searching high and low. But never any luck. I even tried Ebay and came across a few of his records. But never bidded on them, because the bidding would start or end at $200-$300. This past weekend or so. I decided to check out The Rose Bowl Flea Market. I was a new comer and amazed at the endlessness of it all. Walking around searching for hats, among other things. I came across a gentleman. Who had a few crates of records with him. I started digging through them, found Rolling Stones' 'Flowers'. Picked it up and kept digging. Found Stray Cats' 'Built for Speed', picked that up. In the middle of many others, I see this one record that for some reason stood out more than the others. And wouldnt you know it. A SEALED Johnny Burnette and The Rock N Roll Trio. SEALED. I freaked out for a mili-second. And held it together. I asked the nice guy how much he wanted for the record and responded 'That crate of records are for $1 each.'......Held it together. Kept looking, payed the guy, rushed home and drooled over them. I am still amazed to this day and refuse to play them. As I want to preserve their condition. I am so psyched. I also found Bill Haleys 'Rock Around The Clock' in the same conditions. I love flea markets.

Just Ask The Lonely.

Checked out the Four Tops/Tempations show @ Universal Amphitheatre, last week or so. It was awesome seeing remaining members. Still keeping the Motown tradition alive. They all dressed up in their matching suits. They all had their cheesy dances. But, its just not the same anymore. Theres like one or two members left of The Tempations. Mr. Otis Williams. And Four Tops had only one. Levi Stubbs son is now paying tribute to his Father. Which I have alot of respect for. I was contemplating if they were going to play 'Ask The Lonely'. It was featured in their first album. Which is the best Northern Soul Ballad Album of the 60's, if you ask me. There I was just hoping they would sing it. And Levi's son belches it out and cries and he sings it to his father. That is now hovering over him. Man, what a song. His son teared up, but kept the show going. Berry Gordy apparently was celebrating his birthday there. Which was cool, to have such an incredible legend,till present at Motown shows. After the show, I just came home and pop their first album in on the turntable. And can't seem to put it down.

Worst Album Of The '80's

Apparently, they were in the same Cleveland punk scene as Pere Ubu, Devo, and The Dead Boys. But its by far one of the worst albums, to have come out of the '80's.I bought The Waitresses 'Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful?' just the other day.

For the sole purpose of playing 'I Know What Boys Like' @ Needles. It's

got a funky dance groove to it and can get people moving. But I listened to the rest of the album and wanted to chuck the damn thing across the room. So f*cking awful. They sound like Valley girls trying to do a punky reggae album and butchered the hell out of it. So do yourself a favor and save your ear from some real damage.
